Jining Sime Darby Guozhuang Port Co Ltd (City Port)

Jining Sime Darby Guozhuang Port Co Ltd (or popularly known as City Port) was incorporated in December 2008 as a joint venture company between Sime Darby Overseas (HK) Limited (70%) and Jining City Port Business Co Ltd (30%).

The City Port is situated in the heart of Jining, a prefecture-level city in the Southwestern region of the Shandong Province, People’s Republic of China. Jining is today the northernmost city reachable by navigation on the 1,770km Grand Canal of China, also known as the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal – the longest man-made ancient canal or waterway in the world.

The Grand Canal is an important north-south river system to serve the transportation needs of the industries as well as the irrigation needs of the farmland. As a satellite inland river port for the greater Jining city region, the City Port has a current design capacity of 2.5 million MT per annum. Plans are underway to expand the handling capacity of the port by developing more landside facilities, acquiring more modern port equipment and systems to support the anticipated increase in throughput and improve the turnaround of the barges and vessels.

Principal activities of the joint venture company are to undertake the marketing and operation of port services focusing on general cargo, warehousing and containers.

There are currently five 1,000 ton berths handling cargoes such as raw steel, paper pulp, grain, chemical products and general cargo. New services for containers will be marketed in the near future linking Shanghai to the south.
