Established in 1971, Sime Darby Petroleum Sdn Bhd (SDP) was formed as part of the Division’s aspiration in strengthening its presence in the overall upstream value chain. SDP, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sime Darby Group, is based in Malaysia.
In August 1989, SDP acquired a participating interest of 13.36% in a consortium with Petronas Carigali Berhad (73.27%) and Pexco NV (13.36%) for oil exploration in an area identified as Block PM2. The oilfield, named ULAR, is a prospective oil block located towards the north-east of Kelantan and situated to the west of the Malay Basin in the South China Sea.
